The physical act of carrying out a ritual, I believe, can impact the meaning of a dream far greater than originally intended. Performing out rituals can also influence our understanding of feelings as well. I believe this works so well because the physical act creates something physical and tangible from something that has no form. Once there is a form, we are able to manipulate it on a physical level now, whereas before it was at some sort of phycological level, we could not hold it, or feel it. One way, I found, that works great for me is simply writing it down. I can clearly transcribe my thoughts onto paper. I think this is important because it is a great reminder that I should not involve everyone that I know in my dream work, as well as it is not necessary to spend a lot of time and money on each dream ritual. However, given the correct amount of thought and using my intuition, I have been able to think up great rituals that are unique and specific for each dream that does not require anyone else, and out of materials I already have. For instance, I had a dream about feeling trapped. After I went through the first two steps of my dreamwork with the dream, I began to realize that I was feeling anxiety about what I would do once I graduated from Sonoma State. For my ritual, I created a collage with different psychology schools both inside the United States and abroad that I printed out, as well as images from each town. After I was done, I realized that I had so many options, and that I was not trapped at all. I could decide what school best fit me, and then work on getting the required schooling needed done before I transfer. This ritual took me about an hour one morning, and did not cost me anything at all, but I was able to gain a deeper meaning from my dream.
