Drew's Lack Of Motivation In The Classroom

Drew is like many children who have a lack of motivation in class. They may not think that they have the ability to complete assignments due to the fact that they have not gotten enough out of their lessons. This could be because his attention is elsewhere; which means Emily may not be engaging him enough. Though, Drew seems to attribute his lack of interest and low grades to the idea that he is just not the science type. Drew has an entity view on his abilities; which keeps him from thinking he can build on to the knowledge he already has. This can lead to him believing that his skill levels in science are fixed in place limiting his ability to perform related tasks. By doing this, Drew is able to pay attention to what Emily is telling the class because he is focused on recording her lessons. Moreover, this also gives him the opportunity to study every day by doing a review with Emily.
