Drug Testing in the Workforce The recreational use of marijuana is legal in 8 states (Governing.com, 2016). This change in law has brought new perspectives into the drug testing at the work place. While drug testing has existed for decades, the millennial generation has a different outlook on drug testing practices in the workplace. A recent journal article titled “Workplace Drug Screening: How to Prevent it from Driving Away Millennial Employees” written by Darrell Crosgrove, Sonny Ariss, Kimberly Ni-gem, and Donald Wedding provides some further insight. The journal article suggests that millennials are against drug testing in comparison to other generations. They view that drug testing as an invasion of privacy and is unethical. This becomes an issue because unlike past generations, millennials strive to work at a place for job satisfaction rather than income. If they are unsatisfied then they are more inclined to leave their job position for a different workplace.
