In America today most people drive to there work, school, or the store to do their daily activities. At age sixteen you are allowed to get your license and start driving on your own in america. In order to get a license you must pass multiple test to acquire your license from the state. Teen drivers have had a history though of being unsafe drivers, so precautions have been made to limit wrecks caused by them. The history of teen drivers is full of shocking statistics. The Institute for Highway Safety states that “crashes are the leading cause of death among American teens” (“Teen Drivers” par. 2). This shows that most teens die due to unsafe driving. If teens payed more attention and were cautious about other people and were defensive drivers this could change. Brian O’Neill of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states that “Put four teenagers in a car, and you have a prescription for immature, irresponsible behavior.” (“Teen Drivers” par. 4). This information reveals that a teen could be a really good driver on there own, but adding other teens could affect their concentration and distract them from the road. O’Neill also states that “The fatal-crash rate per mile driven for sixteen-year-olds is about twice as high during the night as during the day.” (“Teen Drivers” par. 3). This tells that even though most teens want to go out at night, and have fun doesn’t mean that it is in their best interest to go out due to the higher risk of crashes at night.
