According to the Big Bang, the entire universe grew from one singularity nearly fourteen billion years ago. Throughout the billions and billions of years since then, many monumental events have occurred. The beginning of matter, the creation of the sun and earth, and the first appearance of life to name a few. And clearly, the next major event to occur should be Courtney Bland attending Duke’s Intensive STEM Academy in the summer of 2018. Not only am I distinctively qualified for the program, but also extremely interested in it. On top of its reputation as one of the country’s most esteemed universities, it has an incredibly beautiful campus and an exuberant atmosphere. Further, sports is a major interest of mine outside of school, and I have spent nearly every weekend as far back I can remember going from practice to game and practice again. As an ACC powerhouse with a colossal fan base, Duke allows its students to continue to be passionate regarding this athletic aspect of life while still being extremely dedicated to academics, and this appears to be a perfect balance for me. In addition, Duke’s location in Durham places it in the heart of the Research Triangle makes it an optimal and exciting place for any STEM pupil looking to broaden their horizons like I am. Especially when also having the incredible opportunity to attend the reputable Pratt School of Engineering. I covet a chance like this which the Intensive STEM Academy, and Duke University in general, presents. To name a few other reasons I love Duke, all freshmen living together on East Campus as a means to bond the class and DukeEngage presenting the potential to undertake dire human needs throughout the world particularly stand out. These are just a few of the reasons I am strongly considering applying to Duke early decision this upcoming fall, and feel as though spending with a week there in this program could
