The Hunger games by Suzanne Collins tells the story of Katniss Everdeen as she sacrifices her life by entering a fight to death tournament against others, in order to save her little sister Primrose. This book helped me appreciate life as the comparison between the dystopia, Panem and our world were quite interesting because of the similarities. In the beginning of the book, Katniss sacrifices her life by volunteering as tribute in order to save primrose her sister. By doing, this she entered herself in a fight to death tournament with 23 other people. “I volunteer!” I gasp. “I volunteer as tribute!” was a shocking and one of the most memorable moments to me. This was a memorable moment because I have siblings and I imagined what it would be like to hear my siblings being called out. This made me angry because if I were with my other district team mate, I would be sad knowing the trust we created would seem to disappear once we realise only one can make it out alive. She out tricks the game makers by pretending to commit suicide with Peeta knowing that the game makers wouldn’t want both of them to die. The fact she could easily think of this showed how smart she was. This taught me to never judge a person by their appearance. Even though Katniss seemed poor and dumb, due to her upbringing in District 12, she was pretty smart, as she could outsmart the people who controlled her life. In society, we have become quick to judge people. With people like Donald Trump creating ideas of who people are, due to a certain characteristic like Muslim being terrorists.
