There are many different characteristics and acquired knowledge that are important for an early childhood educator to possess in order to provide quality care to the children. In the first part of this paper we will discuss these key elements and discover how they come together to create an Educator capable of providing high quality care.

It's been said time and time again: Great teachers are born, not made. While this is not entirely true, the concept behind it has merit. One must first be born with certain innate characteristics, and when paired with the proper knowledge and experience, a great teacher can emerge. To become an early childhood educator we must possess many attributes, both innate as well as learned.
