The Canadian forestry industry provides a wide range of economic and social benefits. Harvesting trees makes up 1.25% or $19.8 billion of Canada’s gross domestic product. The industry provides employment to 216 500 people and another 350 000 workers support the industry indirectly. Forestry is a renewable resource but only if managed properly. Continuous forest clear cutting could lead to the disappearance of Canada’s forest and subsequently global warming worsening. Cutting down trees adds a lot of money to Canada but sustaining trees is even more important as they convert Carbon dioxide into oxygen and thus reducing harmful green house gases.
