Edgar Allen Poe was born on January 19, 1809, Boston, Massachusetts. Poe was a critic, editor, and a writer. He also wrote short stories and poems, his style was mysteries and horror. Edgar Allan Poe’s background, personal life, and career influenced his writing style.
The first thing that influenced Poe’s writing style was his background. Edgar’s father was David Poe and his mother was Elizabeth Arnold (PoeStories.com 2). In 1795, Elizabeth came to America and soon after arriving she married David, the two parents had three kids, Henry, Edgar, and Rosalie (PoeStories.com 2). Poe’s family was torn apart early on, his father left when he was young and his mother died in 1811 because of tuberculosis (PoeStories.com 3). Henry went to live with his grandparents while Rosalie was taken in by another family (PoeStories.com 3).
