Edgar Allen Poe was a fiction writer, poet, and critic. He did amazing work. Poe was born on January 19th 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the second son of David Poe, Jr., and Elizabeth Arnold, both very great actors. While growing up Poe had great family issues. His mother, also known as Eliza, gave birth to another daughter, but by another man rather than his father, rumored. Within two years his mother fell very ill and passed away in Richmond, Virginia, on December 8th, 1811 at the age of twenty-four. Whereabouts of his father, we do not know, but we know that by the age of three orphaned Poe was separated from his siblings and became the adopted son of the childless couple, the Allen’s. Along with this talent he was very outstanding at leaping, boxing, and especially, swimming. In February 1862 Poe was enrolled at the University of Virginia. Poe excelled in Latin and French, but suffered a romantic disappointment. He fell in love with a girl named Elmira Royster, but his father disapproved of the relationship. Later, Poe privately married a women named Virginia. Poe started of his author career by writing numerous magazine articles that many people took interest in. While in this process, Poe had even more difficulties with his love life. He was drawn to multiple women, and marriage was just not for him. One women really stuck out to him though, Sarah Helen. Once again though, things did not work out and Poe attempted to commit suicide. He became a very bad alcoholic.
