Edgar became a adopted child of John Allan, who was a wealthy merchant Edgar enrolled in Virginia university then he accrued gambling debts from his adoptive dad the debt that his dad refused to pay then Edgar had to leave the university.

Edgar made many many books but the award that he got during his life were not all about his books like he got 50 dollars for finding a manuscript in a bottle that was just one.
He also got a award in 1845 for 100 dollars for a award called the golden bug from the dollar newspaper and those were like his only awards during his life time which was an award for one of his books that book was the Raven.
