Due to Edgar’s lack of money, he was only able to go to the University of Virginia for a semester. Henry David Thoreau and Edgar Allan Poe were to complete different people but both had support from relatives and friends. Though Edgar was not very wealthy, he was very successful due to his writing and his artistic skills.

Poe’s parents were David Poe and Elizabeth Poe. When Poe was very young, David Poe left the family. When Poe was three, Elizabeth Poe died due to tuberculosis. After the absence of Poe’s parents, John Allan took care of Poe. This is why Edgar Allan Poe had “Allan” in his name.

The evidence to prove this is that it says, 'all my soul within me burning ', it creates a visualization of a soul burning both in curiosity and terror of who or what could be waiting at the door at this time of night. In the second line of the raven, in the sixth stanza, it says 'I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before. '
Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. Some said that Edgar’s dad died, but others say that he abandoned his family. 2 years after David abandoned his family, Elizabeth gave birth to a baby girl. Elizabeth died December 8, 1811, in Richmond, Virginia at 24 years old from falling ill with most likely an infectious disease. Elizabeth died before Edgar was three, but Elizabeth most likely died with her children being with her when it happened.
The book was printed by Calvin F. Thomas. The author of the book was only written as “A Bostonian.” The book did not receive any critical acclaim and drew in little attention. “[Poe’s] unit was transferred to Charleston, South Carolina, where he served as company clerk and assistant in his company’s supply department”(McArthur 24). After over a year and a half of being in the army, Edgar Perry was promoted the rank of Sergeant-Major, after which point Poe disclosed his true identity to his superiors.
Later Elizabeth died, leaving her children to be separated and sent away to other families. Poe was adopted by a tobacco family, John Allan and Frances Allan his wife. Poe was accepted into the University of Virginia, but a crippling addiction to gambling and alcohol, accumulated a large debt of

Edgar Allan Poe had experienced a loss multiple times. Poe married his cousin when she was 13, he was 27. Both of Poe’s parents died in 1811 and so he was raised as a foster child. In the poem “Annabel Lee” he talks about how his love Annabel Lee passed away. In the poem “The Raven” he talks about his love, Lenore passing away and The Raven comes to him and is repetitive.
Though Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories like, The Cask of Amontillado, to his poems like, The Raven, Poe’s shows his writing style to use physical imagery and connotative syntax to show ,imagery in his writing. Throughout his life, Poe had always lived through the most chaotic and evil of time. His parents died while he was 3 years old. After his parents died, he lived with another family member who never accepted him as their own son. Later on in life, Poe had served in the military and at that point he started writing poems.
