Philosophy of Education
I feel that education is a unique experience for every person. Each student and teacher possess different qualities that contributes to the classroom, community and the world as a whole. In order for students to learn, teachers need to understand that each student is different they have their own thoughts, beliefs, and learning styles. Teachers need to be creative to engage students and teach in a way that works with their individual learning style. A teacher can help each individual student to be educationally successful if they take the time and energy required to do so. I believe a trusting relationship between the students and teacher is necessary in order to create a safe learning environment. Once a bond is created, it allows the students to express themselves in an honest, raw way that truly allows for independent thought, it allows the students to express themselves without fear, I feel this type of environment helps students thrive. I believe a pragmatism approach would help teach students in the United States. “Pragmatists believe that open communication, the testing of ideas though discussion, is an essential part of a classroom where discovery is an essential part of a classroom where discovery is the primary objective. Since open communication is also necessary for a democratic society the classroom is also seen as a laboratory for social progress.” (Rizzo, p. 2) By allowing the students to question their thoughts, feelings and emotions, it gives more meaning to the subjects being taught. Teachers can utilize this method in classrooms by facilitating open discussions, having guest speakers, going on field trips and having children write reflections on
