From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher: that I wanted to open children’s eyes to wonders of the universe, to help sculpt them into the best versions of themselves, and shape the future of our nation with my actions. I see teaching not only as a method of bettering a student’s own life by assisting them as they uncover their personal potential, but as a way to positively affect the lives of people who never set foot in my classroom. The students that pass through my will become an extension of my knowledge, my passion, and my efforts. However, I have experienced my fair share of failures as well, and these unfortunate events proven to be hidden opportunities to improve and refine myself as an educator. This inherent need to improve myself and serve as a primary advocate of my student’s educational success has led to my focus on underrepresented populations within the student body. I have learned how to identify and create beneficial interventions for struggling students, how to guide parents and students through a referral process to special education, I have pursued additional extensions for my gifted students as attended classes for my Gifted and Talented Endorsement, and sought to close the socio-economic achievement gap with free after school …show more content…

As a result of this desire to extend my influence on the education of future generations I’ve chosen to pursue a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, and take the next step towards my goal of improving the world through its youth. I believe that I have built the skills, attitudes, and talent to, effectively and competently, take on the role of leadership. This belief exists thanks, in no small part, to my own teachers, professors, and mentors. It is that group of venerated men and women whose legacy I am trying to uphold, and whose legacy will, with dedication to the principles they instilled in me, live on through my actions as a leader. Accordingly, I chose seek out other professionals who exemplify the best that our field has to offer. As I perused the faculty of many universities throughout the state, and even the nation, I found myself drawn closer and closer to Brigham Young University due to the credentials of its faculty, its impeccable reputation, and apparent dedication to improving educational outcomes in my home state of Utah.
