One reason that standardized tests aren’t good, is that the preparation of them is denying kids part of the fun in grade school. As stated in the book “The Case Against Standardized Testing”, the author Alfie Kohn stated, “You deprive kids of recess, eliminate music and the arts, cut back the class meetings and discussions of current events, offer less time to read books for pleasure, squeeze out the field trips and interdisciplinary projects and high-quality electives...” This is showing that testing is stripping kids of the pleasures grade school each year state testing occurs. Standardized testing evaluates only the individual performance of a student instead of the overall growth of a student over the course of a year. In my opinion, Standardized testing is not enhancing education in America. Not all students who are smart and take in all the information test well. For instance, there are many people who simply do not perform well on tests.
Standardized testing is currently used all over the world. It is used many different ways. It ranges from determining intelligence levels, to deciding your future with colleges and jobs. Each test is made up differently, and each standardized test taker reacts differently to them. The tests cause the test taker to be stressed, along with the mental, and photometric aspects.
Standardized testing has been apart of American education since the mid 1800s. Standardized testing has dramatically increased since the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002 as it was required in all fifty states. Rankings in the states have decreased since the No Child Left Behind Act and it has been thought education in the United States has been a failure due to high poverty levels, teacher quality, student desire to thrive, and different school testing policies. The issue of standardized testing starts with, is it actually helping education in America. Every student deserves an effective teaching system which works to better their education; standardized tests are not working towards advancing student education.

It is a great way to see how students are learning and what should be improved upon. My first reason supporting that schools are placing too much emphasis on standardized testing is that schools make too much unnecessary tests. Schools have annual testing and if the school did not get good test scores they would suffer severe consequences. Standardized testing does not require much of an effort. These tests are checked by the computer thus, saving more time and since these tests are administered in the same manner, it would be easier for them to evaluate the test results because these tests have its own standards. These tests are also objective and are based by general-knowledge thus, making the test results unbiased and non-subjective. Educators will also be able to compare and evaluate a student’s progress over a period of time. These tests would show whether a student has performed well or not (OccupyTheory, 2014).
