Being Determined The Odyssey, by Homer, is an epic poem that is about a hero's journey to come home. In The Odyssey, Odysseus has many obstacles he has to face to find his way home, like Polyphemus the cyclops or Scylla and Charybdis. He finally makes it home and has to prove to his wife that he is truly Odysseus. Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus has important traits that help him survive resulting in his successful trip back home.
The tests narrow down the curriculum to focus on the subjects that are on the test, forgetting about the other subjects. Standardized tests cannot measure all that schools teach like how to be a problem solver. Standardized tests have not improved America’s education system. Every once in a while the world will submit their schools performance and they will be ranked with
Texas School Testing Learning is an amazing, beautiful, and helpful process of the mind. It lets us recall things that we have come to understand; learn. We learn about the people, the world, the challenges humanity has faced, wars fought over time. Texas has many schools and the main goal for these school 's is that the student 's pass rather than anything else. The only thing is, without understandment and knowledge of what we are supposed to be learning, how are we going to pass these test.
When has everything became about how well you do on a standardized test? (Interoggative sentence/rhetorical sentence) Okay students, today you’ll be taking the PARCC. Okay students, today you’ll be taking the AIRS. Okay students, today you’ll be taking the Explorer SAT.
State standardized tests are exams students take to assess their schools, teachers, and what they learned in their year. Many parents and teachers deem these tests useless and see it as an unnecessary stress added to their child’s life. Students should not be taking this exam because it causes a major curriculum gaps between students, causes stress and loss of interest in school, and after almost a full year of learning, this test is supposed to determine a student 's knowledge of the year’s curriculum. Although some say this test prepares students for college, the stress and loss of interest in school caused by this test and test prep can affect student’s mental health and grades. State tests cause stress and anxiety in students, especially lower performing students because of the pressure of making sure all students, regardless of ability, reaches the same level.
In fact, the increasing use of standardized testing will do more damage than good, because of its failure to capture the entirety of a student’s body of work. Furthermore, the overwhelming stress that the United States government, and school systems have placed on the usage of standardized tests has become detrimental to American education, and is not the most effective way to gauge the intelligence of American students. The American educational system should be fixated on providing each child enough attention and information so they can succeed in that class and in the future. However, the increasing focus on having to pass a standardized test has blinded schools of the real goal, because they are required to get their students to pass the standardized tests.
There are many bills that have been placed in order to help people. In particularly, there has been a bill passed that states that there would be counseling to help those who need help going into college. This bill will ensure that the students are college ready by having check requirements on how well they pass statewide New Jersey standardized testing. I do not agree with the passing of this bill because even though these tests may help determine if a student is college ready, it does not measure their abilities to problem solve. This bill states that you must get a minimum of twenty four on the verbal ACT, a minimum of a five hundred and forty on the critical reading section of the SAT, and an advanced proficient score on the High School Proficiency Assessment, also known as the HSPA.
Standardized tests should not be present in schools because of the obstructive effects on students individually, the lack of helpful information and testing curriculum to further improve test scores, and the disruption of knowledge taught in the classroom. Standardized tests affect students in many ways. They can be influenced by many factors like hunger, stress, tiredness, pressure, and even stereotypical threats. Distractions and influential factors such as the ones listed can harm a student individually, causing the testing environment to be unfair and responsible for missed questions.
Students shouldn't have to take standardized tests because it could cause severe stress on children, older students might not take the tests very seriously because it doesn't affect their overall grade, and it robs children of their childhoods. First of all, these tests can cause severe stress in most students. On the website ProCon.org, con number nine it states, ” According to education reacher Gregory J. Cizek, anecdotes abound ‘illustrating how testing ...products gripping anxiety in even the brightest students, and makes young children vomit, cry, or both.’’ It also states that there is instructions on what to do if that happens!
Imagine a world in which students no longer had to take standardized tests. Most schools take standardized tests, however, it should not be a requirement for students to take them. Standardized test do not help students in any way, therefore, they should not be forced to take them because it takes up the student’s time and are not reliable. Schools spend most of the time preparing students to take standardized tests which takes time away from the students to be able to do other things in school. When students have an upcoming standardized test, students a lot spend most of the time studying for it.
Standardized testing is a stressful time for both students and teachers, so why should they make it worse for them? Kids get stressed out over standardized test. Sometimes teachers get more stressed than the kids. Your scores take over three months come back. These test have been stressing kids out more and more over the years and we have to do something about it.
Then they can identify students that are struggling with the class. “Critics contend that tests can contain culturally biased content that may be unfamiliar to minorities and recent immigrants. Moreover, for students with learning disabilities or who process information differently”(Beaupré). They say that the tests are not fair for students with learning disabilities and recent immigrants ,that do not have much understanding of the culture, because some questions are culturally based, so therefore students do not understand the questions and they do not get them right which affects their performance. Also also schools are cutting off material that is not in the test, forcing teachers to ignore content that is not in the test.
As a student in high school did you ever feel like the standardized test are helping you or making you get in to a better college? Have you ever thought about how many hours students and teachers spend preparing for the standardized test? Many hours and studying are being put into those test but are they really effective and are the test doing the students good in life? Standardized tests are really just to effective, teachers and students spend too much time on them and it’s not doing the students any good, and even it’s not doing the teachers any good. Standardized tests in schools today in Ohio should be stopped because they are causing for teachers to be evaluated by the test results of how the students do on the tests, they are having the students more stressed about school and do they benefit you in colleges and university and do they really look at how well students do on them test.
Schools are giving out too many standardized tests. It’s not only robbing them of their time, but it’s also causing stress and anxiety and going into far levels. Students need to be focusing on their learning academics and preparing for their future. Taking unuseful tests are not only pointless, but they put too many kids/teens into anxiety and even depression.
These subjects consist of math, science, language arts, and reading comprehension. Say a young boy or girl is hearing and visually impaired and is not able to take this test with full cognitive ability. If this child takes they test not knowing what any of it means or has a clue what they are doing and their test score goes on a record saying that the completely bombed this test and it reflects everyone. When in reality, this child had no clue what they were doing or what they were even looking at but there score counts towards everyone whether that person could read or write at all. It basically corrupts the whole test scores and results since there are children whose scores shouldn't even be listed since they don't know how to even comprehend the test, it's unfair not only for them, but all the other children who may know the test but it isn't shown since the result shows that maybe a majority of people do bad on this
