Using Steroids For Sports Makes Children Fall Short
Competitive sports are often hard to get into, difficult to play, and stressful in many ways. Children sometimes turn to steroids, which can give them a better chance to get into the big leagues, while building endurance. However, steroids are extremely injurious to a user’s health, to the point of possible death. Unfortunately, many users do not even realize they are affecting their health, since problems do not show up until later in life. Steroids also cause rage and aggressiveness. But to top all this, they are very easy to obtain. The fact is, it is nearly impossible to know what issues using steroids in childhood can do to users in the future. Children who used steroids had increased testosterone levels, which made them lose control of their anger. This syndrome is quite common in users in their teens, and called “roid rage.” (Jnoon, 2005.). That is a major issue for children, and the parents of these children do not seem to understand that. Most parents think that is normal, but it is not. In fact, Rich Melloni PHD explained it. “The adolescent age of childhood is a very vulnerable time in terms of aggression... So by taking steroids, what you are doing is affecting the development of the system that inhibits your aggressive response.” (Benson, 2002, pg.49). Simply put, he went on to say that children start to become more aggressive, which can ultimately get them into major trouble.
