Attention! To students and professional athletes, you should never consider Performance-enhancing drug use to succeed in sports. Performing-enhancing drugs, also known as PED, are any substances, such as human growth hormone or stimulants, that are taken by athletes to enhance performance. As an athlete, why would you want to waste all your time spending countless hours, effort, and hard work on performing well and have people think it’s because of PEDs? Will Grier, former Florida starting quarterback, tested positive for PED substance. He took an over-the-counter supplement that had something in it before checking with the medical staff. According to Partnership for a Drug-Free America, “Androgenic steroids can cause severe rage, aggressive outbursts or violence” (Effects of Performance). The person taking the drugs may have mood swings or just go on a “roid rage”. The thought of an athlete taking PEDs disappoints me because they’re taking the heart out of the game by not pushing themselves to best of their ability. According to the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, “Research has shown that steroids can also cause delusions such as beliefs of invincibility, paranoid jealousy, excessive irritability and moodiness and impaired judgment” (Mangan). Athletes who takes this drug feel like they can conquer the world, but in reality, they can’t. Holyfield once famously said, “When I think of steroids I think of an image. You have the advantage over someone, which is a form of cheating. I guess it wouldn't be right unless it was legal for everybody. Reason it's not legal for everybody is because it can hurt people seriously” (“Evander Holyfield”).
