The focus of my unit plan will be a basketball unit for elementary third grade students. I am introducing this unit plan to this grade level because I want the students to start developing and focusing on their basic motor skills and their manipulative skills. The running, jumping, and hopping that take place in this sport will help the students work on their basic motor skills. The passing of the ball, the dribbling of the ball, and receiving a pass will help the students work on their manipulative skills. The students will also work on shifting their weight balance when they perform movements like a lay-up shot. This sport will help the students begin developing their motor skills for sports that they will be introduced to as time goes by. …show more content…

According to the third grade literacy standards under key ideas and details, students in the third grade must be provided with literacy work where they can ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. This can easily be provided to students by giving them a handout where each shot in basketball is explained step by step, and also a photo showing proper form of how each shot is supposed to look. This will allow for the students to read the steps necessary to perform each shot, and allow them to see how the shot is set up, and how it is supposed to look. They will be able to answer me when I ask them the steps to certain
