Being an elementary teacher, I haven’t had the opportunity to work with one of the athletic directors, since there aren’t athletic directors in the elementary schools. The sports that are held at the elementary level are typically ran through the p.e. teacher or are associated outside of schools. The only knowledge of what I know of what the athletic director does is based on my own high school experience with sports. Going into the athletic director interview, I was skeptical as I didn’t know what to expect, yet I was very excited to learn more. The interview that was conducted was with Mr. Hunter Reinke, the activities director and dean of students at Liberty Middle School in West Fargo. The middle school’s goal is to promote exploration in different athletic or music activities, more so give them idea if they would like to participate in a particular activity when they are at the high school level. Mr. Reinke stated there is an activities handbook that is given to parents and students of the activities of the policies and the above purpose of athletics. Mr. Reinke said that there is also a coach’s handbook that outlines NDHSAA policies and how it affects middle school.
