I conducted an interview with the director of maintenance to review job responsibilities and schedules of the staff. The maintenance director and I toured each campus where he discussed his responsibilities and service goals for the school district. I learned that the maintenance and custodial staff provide important services to a school district and are responsible for the cleanliness and order of each campus, which is required for optimum learning to take place. As a school administrator it is important to be able to communicate and have a positive relationship with employees in the district. • What do you believe are your limitations in performing the leadership roles observed during the internship activity? Leadership roles for a campus principal center around your campus. Many times maintenance personnel are not seen on a regular basis. This is a limitation in daily performance and will need to be worked on. • How has your leadership practice been impacted through the completion of this activity? There are many different facets of services that play an integral part in the learning of students. Students are entitled to a safe and clean learning environment which the maintenance and custodial staff provide. • Is there anything you would have done differently? I was not able to meet with many of the maintenance and custodial staff due to their work schedules. I would have liked to meet some to them and talk to them. A Brief
