Have you ever heard of the King of Rock and Roll? Elvis Presley was that man. Presley was known for being a bit shy, very famous, and really popular. Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. As a child Presley was a little bit shy. Presley was from a religious family and they attended a church. The Pentecostalists, a Christian festival, were called the Holy Rollers, a term Elvis hated all his life. The church that the Presleys attended was called The First Assembly of God Church. Elvis felt that church was the only place for Elvis to practice his singing. All of Presley’s teachers and classmates hated it when Elvis always used to sing in class and they always told him to stop.The author wrote, “His musical triumphs fell into three main categories, he was a great synthesizer, a great popularizer, and a great revolutionary” (Woog 10). Elvis’s first performances sparked people, some people even said that it looked like Elvis had been shot out of a cannon when he performed. In the beginning of the year 1947, Presley started performing on live TV shows. “He was appearing with some of the countries biggest entertainers and had caught the attention of a very powerful manager” (37). You can tell that Elvis was very famous. In November that year, RCA, the biggest record company announced that they were going to buy Elvis’s contract for $40,000. Tom Parker was the most influential person in Elvis’s career other that Elvis himself. When Tom Parker and Elvis Presley worked together they were unstoppable.
