Embryonic stem cell research is ethical. The removal of an egg from a donor, fertilization and then use of the stem cells to find cures for genetic diseases, is ethical. The potential benefits outweigh the potential costs. Stem cells can be used to cure a plethora of different diseases. From cancer to spinal cord injuries, the treatment cures many ailments. However, researchers have begun to use them to cure genetic disorders. This has brought forth the question of if the use of a fertilized egg is ethical. I, for one, believe that the use is ethical. The testing can help find cures for many diseases such as Parkinson's, birth defects, Alzheimer's, and repair of damaged organs. If we as a human race could find a cure for these problems it would mean (in colloquial terms) the world to people. It could, potentially, change societal views on many of these diseases. Many people believe that the fertilization of an egg is the moment when a human life is created. Whether they believe it for religious reasons or not, it has become a point of contention for many people. The idea that human life begins at conception is one that is not entirely supported. When an egg is fertilized it does not hold the promise of becoming a baby. It does hold the potential of becoming a child. However, sadly, many times that conception happens it does not end in a baby. There are many women who have miscarriages and lose their child. Instances like this do not result in a baby. There are two extremes to this idea: fertilization is when life occurs and only after birth is when life starts. I do not fall on either side of the extremes instead I believe that once a heartbeat can be found, that is the beginning of life. When we check to see if a person is dead we check for the heartbeat. If the prerequisite for checking for death is not there, how can one say they were ever truly
