What if you were paralyzed and had a chance to walk again would you take that opportunity or rather live by a wheelchair? Stem cells may be the reason you could recover from being paralyzed and have a reason to enjoy life. There are two types of stem cells and they are adult and embryonic stem cells. This writing will introduce you to stem cells which are very beneficial to society.
Embryonic stem cells are the most talked about stem cells. Along with being very beneficial, they possess various other traits as well. For example embryonic stem cells are able to regrow organs in our body. You read that right we can regrow our own organs. Scientists are studying research on this process. Some cells once lost, can never be replaced such as brain cells. Be that as it may there are some cells that can be regrown or replaced thanks to embryonic stem cells. Since it has not grown into an adult stem cell yet, the embryonic stem cell can act as a new cell such as hair cells, skin cells etc. Always available, embryonic stem cells are there to replace what needs to be fixed.
Certain diseases are at the moment incurable. The study of embryonic stem cells have given researchers a hope of finding a cure. They hope to find the cure for diseases like cancer and Parkinson’s. The affected organs will either be replaced, regrown or will be cured altogether. With this research we come a step closer to saving thousand maybe even millions of lives.
Some say that embryonic stem cell research may have limitations and may not work. This used to be true until funding was brought back by the President. Now stem cell research can continue and hopefully in time save more lives than the medicine used
