Human beings experience many things within their lifetime. Many of those experiences involves the creation of emotional relationships through interactions of other people. these emotions we feel are what makes us human. when we start to build these relationships an attachment grows, through these relations it often molds human beings to learn how to interact and care for one another. So when a death happens to a close relation, the process of mourning submits a transformation to a person. Judith Butler once said, "that is, in mourning he or she has lost control; in mourning "something takes hold" of the mourner." A perfect example of this statement is from the film, "Children of Men", which was focused on a confused and distraught man named Theo. In this film, Theo was found experiencing political changes in his country that left him experiencing grief and melancholia. However, how could emotional changes transform a human being? Do these changes lead people to go lead people to go downward or uplift them in their lives?

In the film, Children of Men, it is clearly shown how Theo is falling into a downward spiral, no longer aware of what his purpose is in life anymore. He engulfs himself in drinking alcohol quite often in the beginning of the movie and he eventually smoked marijuana with his good friend, Jasper. It seemed Theo was just going to become an alcoholic throughout the film, but then his ex-wife Julian reappeared into his life. Julian is a leader of a rebel group that is against the government. She comes across a young girl named Kee, who is an immigrant carrying the first baby in the past 18 years. As infertility continues to grow throughout the nation, Kee goes into hiding so the government doesn 't take her baby away and does not kill her, Julian takes Kee to Theo. knowing that they could trust him. However, how is Theo supposed to take care of Kee and her baby if he can’t even take care of
