I chose the Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt. The moral of this book is how it feels to have a school that is not normal, and have a teacher hate your guts. This book is about a seventh grader named Holling Hoodhood, and he goes around the school, acting serious about things. When things go downhill and all his classmates get mad at him, he tries his best to fix it. Mrs. Baker hated Holling, but then Holling acted like a friend to her, and the hate relationship was over.
In the passage written by Amy Tan the author uses adjectives and feelings to reveal that an embarrassing experience in her youth changed her prospective on her heritage by showing her she needs to always be reminded of her heritage. One of Amy’s emotions in this passage is she feels embarrassed that her Chinese family that came over would get up to get their while the American would wait patiently for the food to be passed. One thing that made Amy embarrassed was when her dad took the fish cheek and said “Amy your favorite.” Another emotion was she was scared that the boy wouldn’t like their Chinese food or wouldn’t like there Chinese Christmas. But Amy’s fear was realized because the ministers family didn’t eat a lot nor did they talk.
What are the emotions of the person? Emotions are states of mind that appear in specific circumstances. Emotions could be anger, which appears when something infuriates people, or joy, which emerges when people feel pleasure. John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men and Christie McLaren’s article “Suitcase Lady” both expose heartache and social inequalities to deduce the feeling of commiseration. The bleak hardship of life affirms the heartache through Lennie and the Suitcase Lady. Lennie is loyal to George and is terrified of upsetting his friend.

The attitude of the novel is varying, and as expected of any good novel, there are many different parts, with the ability to provoke a myriad of profound emotions. In the first third of the novel, the reader is just beginning to acquaint themselves with the different characters. Furthermore, the abrupt changes in setting could give even the most placid individual whiplash. The main feeling that comes across is empathy. The Parisian people are living in the most destitute conditions with nothing to eat and no place to escape to.

Anger, happiness, disappointment, tenderness, distrust, jealousy, annoyance and desperation are just but some of these feelings. Some of these may be difficult to control due to the dependence and understanding that exists between the lovers. Human emotions are hard to understand because they change as situations change. Also, these emotions cannot be avoided and anyone, at one point in life, must experience one or many of these feelings. Love stands at the top of these emotions.
In Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Cask of Amontillado” and Zora Neale Hurston’s short story “Sweat” the two characters are consistently belittled by the antagonist in the stories. In “Sweat” Delia is an average housewife, but unfortunately she is in an abusive relationship with her husband named Sykes, who has a tendency to degrade Delia. Throughout the story, Sykes treats Delia horribly and towards the end of the story, Delia finally realizes that she has had enough of her abusive husband because he makes her feel as if she is not worth anything. Due to Sykes’ tendency to degrade her, Delia is considered to be a sympathetic character. The same kind of conflict affects the narrator in Edgar Allan Poe’s story “The Cask of Amontillado.”
Most people can understand that when a soldier comes back from war, he is not going to be the same. He has seen too much and done too much to still be the innocent boy he had been. In the novel, The Sorrow of War by Bao Ninh, he not only puts the effect of war for soldiers, but for regular civilians as well. The novel is saying that war affects females even though they could not fight in war. The message is conveyed through female characters that have felt sorrow and emptiness during and after the war.
