During the Imperial period, Roman Emperors were chosen by hereditary, where as today rulers are elected into office. For every good emperor you are sure to have a bad one over time. Even if one was not going to be a good leader due to his birth right there was little one could do in order to get out of this position. Once an Emperor was on the throne the only way to leave the position was to die or be murdered. In the end paranoia always ended up ruling because everyone knew that it was just a matter of time no matter how good of a ruler you were, someone was always not going to like you and want to see you dead. Claudius’ life started in the year 10 BC and ended in 54 AD. He reigned between the years of 41 AD until his death in 54 AD. Due to a childhood illness he was left with some physical disfigurations. He would on occasion fall asleep at the table, he walked with a limp, and was partially deaf in one ear. Because of these disabilities his family would make fun of him and at times he was out casted. Caesar had always tried to conquer the Britain Empire was never successful. Claudius was able to conquer the Brits bringing them into the Roman Empire. Claudius also was an adamant builder when it came to constructing new roads and canals in order to make Rome more transportation friendly. When it came to the law one of the things that he was able to accomplish was to make the court sessions longer, increased the age in order to make the jury pool larger along with presiding over public hearings. He changed laws that would protect the sick slaves and allowed woman more prilivages.
