Claudius was a Roman emperor from 41 to 54, a member of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. He

was the son of Drusus and Antonia Minor, he was born at Lugdunum in Gaul, the first Roman

Emperor to be born outside Itlay. Claudius was assassinated on October 13, 54 AD, in Rome

Italy. Claudius was married to Agrippina the younger (m.49 AD – 54 AD), he was also married

to Messalina (m. 38AD). Claudius had four children, Britannicus, Claudia Octavia, Claudia

Antonia, and Claudius Drusus. Claudius also has two siblings, Germanicus, and Livilla.

Claudius was declared the emperor when Gaius was murdered by his own bodyguard,

Claudius first acts was the apprehension and execution of Gaius’s assassins.

Preparations got under way for a major military expedition into Britain, the invasion commenced

in the summer of 43 and was to last for decades. This move marked the first major addition to the

territory of the Roman Empire since the reign of Augustus.

Britain had resisted Roman rule for over a century, but was conquered by Claudius, who

created client kingdoms to protect the frontier. He had succeeded where Caesar had failed.

Claudius starting building things, public building was de rigueur for Roman emperors, and

ancient accounts of individual reigns routinely include mention of imperial munificence.

Claudius had many different things that he was achieving during his reign, he expanded the

empire, had judicial and legislative affairs, did public works. He did a lot while he was in reign,

he had invaded Britain and he had expanded Rome. He had a personal interest in laws so he wuld

preside at public trials, and issued up to twenty edicts a day. He was seen as vulnerable
