The English language has been around for a number of years, but now it is taking the world by storm. In Dennis Baron 's article titled "Who Owns Global English," he discusses how English has taken root in different countries to the dismay of their Governments. English has taken a new meaning in some countries that native speakers would call improper English. " Yes, we want" (Baron, 35) is the new battle cry of Madrid 's campaign on English. This may be bad English, but Baron is considering the possibility of it becoming a new form of English.
English; the Universal Language Today, the English language is one of the most widespread languages on the planet, but to that it originated from a small, gloomy, rainy island that Julius Caesar thought would not amount to anything, is pretty difficult to believe. As time went on, and influential people came and went, and important events took place, the language changes tremendously from it’s Old English origin.
CHAPTER 2 French language French naturellement The French language is regulated by the Académie Française to prevent any non-French words from creeping into the True French Language. If in doubt a New French Word will be created, for example a Walkman (a trade name) became a Balladeur. Unfortunately for the Académie, many words are in common use, that are not of French origin: weekend; sandwich; parking; stop (stopper = to stop!) ; star; TOP-50 and OK, Jeep, jerrican, and nearly all names of sports except pétanque or boules.
Some might agree with the belief that to live in the United States of America, that person should speak English, not just broken English, fluent English. Even though America has no official language, English is the most commonly spoken language in the US. Some consider it fairly important that if one is to live in America, then they must speak English but is this actually realistic? To make immigrants come into this “melting pot” country and demand they learn a new language seems a little demanding. While it does cost more money to finance things in English and other languages, the benefits for the non-English speakers outweighs the cost.
Language gives the ability to convey ideas. It has existed for at least 80,000 years, marking the time when human beings started communicating. But, where do languages come from? There are two ways; the first is evolutionary, since the first humans interacted with each other and shared their ideas through vocals. “To understand his fellows and to be understood by them, men were impelled to the production of language without which they could not communicate with each other.”
The globalization of the English language is not something that came about coincidentally, or because of some inherent superiority in the structure of the English language. English came about as a dominating language because of the rise of military, economic, and political power of the Western nations that used it as its mother tongue. While the prospect of a global language has many positive attributes in terms of global communication, the very real possibility of English being the dominant language of the world is not without its fair share of issues. As discussed in the text, some populations are deeply concerned with the prospect of English globalization. Though English is the main target because of the very real possibility of it becoming a global language, the dangers of the globalization of any language includes the concern that will give an unfair advantage to native language speakers, and the possibility of the loss of indigenous identity for those whose first language is not English.
English is considered the international language so often called “the language of communication”. One of the reasons is English gets ranked first in the easiest languages in the world, because its four aspects among six ones including verb conjugation, irregular verbs, noun and adjectival forms and written versus spoken forms that belong to grammar are easier than other languages like French, Spanish, German, Greek, etc. (see Lia Nigro, TOEIC USA Team) (1), even that according to Robert McCrum et al. (1992), English "… has a grammar of great simplicity" (2). Nevertheless, English has no standard form, therefore, non- native English learners have plenty of difficulties in encountering different English accents and dialects, typically between
INTRODUCTION As social being, human need to interact each other. Language is the principal means of human being to communicate with each other. It is used to express our reaction to certain situations, and to reveal our thoughts, ideas, emotions and feelings. Language also plays important roles to the development of human and technological civilization. Lyons (1981:3) writes, “A language is a system of arbitrary vocal symbol by means of which social group cooperates”.
From country to country, the spread of pop culture has had its negative effects, formulating decreases in formal language, leading on to potential racial conflicts and generally forming rebellions against this progressive spread of culture and language. However, English specifically has its structural benefits, and he very notion that a large majority of countries are so open to a change in culture and language begs the question as to whether or not this change is in fact beneficial, and is what the world wishes to change into. As change is the only thing constant in life, yet the way in which we change is still debatable. Though a certain amount of influence within countries can be new, exciting, and beneficial to economies, certain courses of action must be taken in the preservation of languages and history to a certain degree. This can be seen with the French organization of “Organization International de la Francophone”, whose general ambition is to benefit the 77 countries that French as on official language, and to sustain and preserve French as a language.

So in this essay I am going to discuss the reasons of how English become a global language and is it a good or bad thing? and what is the advantages and did advantages of spreading of English? There is a lot of reasons that helped to make English a global language and one of the most important reasons is policy , the west colonization for the countries had helped English to spread and distribute by imposing the language and the west culture on the colony countries , so we can say it is all because of the strength that the west had on the world
Standardization of the English Language English was not the original indigenous language of Britain. The first arrival of the Anglo-Saxons in Britain, the inhabitants of the country spoke Celtic languages. Yet English shows few dialects brought by the Germanic invaders. Nor was the subsequent growth of English within Britain a smooth or inevitable trajectory. After the Norman invasion, English was not the first language of the ruling classes.

English has become a world language, spoken by at least 750 million of the whole population today. It is more widely spoken and written than any other language, even Latin, has ever been. It can indeed, be said to be the first truly global language.
In my point of view, English is an appropriate language as an international language and English is a part of the international life because of 3 main reasons which are political history, economics and also the simplicity of this language. First, one of the main reasons why English is the international language in the world today is the fact that Britain was the global superpower in the nineteenth century and America is the global superpower in the twentieth and twenty-first. These two English-speaking countries were the most important countries in terms of the military and trade. By overcoming and colonizing so much of the world, their customs, culture and way of life became common in those parts of the world. This is why so many colonies that were British before now have English as the national language, with many of their people speaking English as a first language.
Currently the language most often taught as a second language around the world. Because English is so widely spoken, it has often been referred to as a "world language", the lingua franca of the modern era and while it is not an official language in most countries, it is currently the language most often taught as a foreign language. It is an admitted fact that English has emerged as an International Language of the world. Many nations of the world are striving for learning it as second language. In its role as a global language, English has become one of the most important academic and professional tools.
