Problems that overpopulation thus far has caused are deforestation, soil erosion, and urban land degradation, declining soil fertility, pollution, desertification, salinization and wildlife depletion. For instance, Ghana is faced by severe land pressure which has accelerated its rate of degradation. The influence of these problem are the technology which is present, land use systems which lead pressure on land and infrastructure (Benneth and Agyepong, 1984:99). Overpopulation remains a huge problem in Africa and effective measures have to be put in place in order to mitigate these problem. Causes of population growth are high mortality and infant rates. For example, high birth rate lead to the increase in population as teenagers get married earlier and these increases the chances of having baby at the early stage. Countries like Nigeria and Ethiopia are already facing the problem of overpopulation due to lack of education, rise in birth rate and cultural influences (UNCED, 1992:68). Government together with environmental experts must protect these rainforest by putting in place the laws and sanctions for any inhabitants who wish to harvest the trees out of these forest and by doing these, lot of trees will be protected in order for them to grow once again. Inhabitants can also achieve sustainable use of harvesting trees through community groups. Education is the most important tool when it comes to such problems. Through education, environmental experts can address the importance of conserving and preserving the natural resources and make people aware of the dangers of exploitation of
