My name is Antonique Whyte. Between the age of 7—13 I had problems with my cognitive thinking because I was diagnosed with low self esteem because I thought I was very unattractive, was displeased with my skin tone which I thought I was too black and less prettier than my classmates. According to “Erikson stages of development”1963, at stage 4 School Age child: 6—12 yrs, Industry vs. Infidelity—competence. This is also a very social stage of development and if we experience and unresolved feelings of inadequacy and inferiority among our peers, we can have serious problems in low self—esteem and competence. This is between the ages of 14—16 in grade 9—11.According to “Erikson Stages of Development”1963, at stage 5 Adolescent: 12—18 years, Identity vs. Role Confusion—Fidelity, An adolescent must struggle to discover and find his or her own identity, while negotiating and struggling with social interaction and “fitting in”, and developing a sense of morality and right from wrong and this experience could also be related to “Kohlberg’s Moral Stages of Development”1969,level 3:Postconventional/Self accepted Moral Principles. The standards conformed to be an internal and action decisions are based on an inner process of thought and judgment concerning right and wrong. Stage 5: Contractual/Legalistic Orientation, when conflict arises between individual needs and law or contrast, though sympathetic to the former ,the individual believes the latter must prevail because of its greater functional rationality for society, the majority will and welfare.
