It was a bright Sunday morning in Jamaica when reality kicked in. It was the biggest change that I would experience as a child. When I got the call that I was moving to the U.S, it was excited but also depressing because I’ve heard that you could live the American dream but that didn’t help all the sadness I would face from leaving my friends and family. The reason for this move was to move to my mom and to make use of the opportunities that we didn’t have back home.
When I finally reach the U.S it was hard but on the bright side I would finally have sometime with my mom because she left Jamaica for two years which she travels back and forth but she but didn’t stay for a long period of time. My mom and I had a close relationship so we made few goals that would make life much easier for us. Our goals were to make the varsity team, to graduate high school and move on to college. Our first goal came through, the first year I joined the soccer team I made the varsity team. I’ve played pickup games around the valley and bought a treadmill to keep working on my cardio through the brutal winter. I was eating healthy and drinking a lot more water than usual but it was hard to stay in shape because of all the temptation from the local restaurants and fast food restaurants. School work was a challenge back home because we would usually have an average of fifty kids in a class and have six to seven classes per day. So when I first started school in the U.S I was surprised by the number of kids per class. It was much easier, stress free and a lot more safer than back home. The first month of sophomore year was difficult to adapt to because the work and the environment was new. Over the course of that year and the rest of the three years I had left I made the best use of it and have progressed tremendously because i have adapted to the new
