While some may feel they have the proper driving ability to text and drive, the statistics show that those people are wrong. Statics show that texting and driving causes a distraction that is dangerous to not only to the driver, but also other commuters as well. This causes an obvious danger to everyone on the road. What is terrifying about all this, is at any time in America, about 1% of drivers are using some sort of hand held communication device.
One of the most dangerous things about texting and driving is the decreased braking reaction time, so much so, it has been observed that those who text and drive generally keep farther distances to the car in front of them. Some theorize that this further distance is to compensate for the known risk of an accident occurring. Study’s have also shown that not just children, but anybody who rides in the car with someone who texts and drives commonly is more likely themselves to text and drive. It has also been shown that people who frequently drive for work are more likely to use their phones whilst driving to socialize and ‘escape’ from their work.
