The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and The Yellow Wall-Paper by Charlotte Perkins Stetson both portray a person slowly losing their grip on reality, but in very different ways. Both stories portray a person who loses their mind due to their conditions or surroundings. Although the protagonists and their surroundings and characters they interact with are very different. The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe features a man who has committed murder and continuously tries to justify that he is innocent and that you may think he’s mad but he’s right in doing so.The protagonist explains there is an old man with the blue eye of a vulture and confesses to killing him in the text. When the scream of the old man is being investigated, the man feels increasingly pressured and anxious around the authorities. Her husband moves her to a secluded house and keeps her in the top room, where the wallpaper is described as an unclean yellow. She feels as if she wants to leave or at least move to a different room in the house, but her husband downplays her feelings and tries to keep her content in her room. She isn’t allowed to visit her cousins, nor is she allowed to be independent in any sort of way as her husband coddles her and keeps her alone upstairs. Because of how she's been kept, her mind deteriorates and her erratic behavior shocks her husband enough to make him pass
