Growing up with a wildlife officer father, I have been emerged in the outdoors. As I have been taught about all the plants and animals, and gained a huge respect for the natural world, I have also built a strong interest in it. I have begun to study biology in high school, and I plan to further my education in college in the same subject. The reason I desire a college education is as follows: without it I will be left with a high school education of biology. Biology is a broad subject with many different areas of study. Following high school, I plan to study biology as it relates to humans. I know humans are only a sliver of the amount of species that encompass this earth, but they are what relates to me the most, and frankly, what I truly know the least about. As my dad was growing up, Bobby Gifford was a mentor to him for many years, roaming all over South Carolina hunting during the fall of each year. Through all aspects of life, he molded my father in his youth, and taught him how to be a true sportsman that appreciates the natural resources of the state. Through these roots, my father went to USC and majored in criminal justice to become a wildlife officer, and follow in the steps of his law enforcement hero in DNR, Bobby Gifford. In all of this, my father has taught me the ins and outs of conserving the states natural resources, and the fine line between man and nature that has to be closely regulated, to ensure its existence. My father instilled in me that law enforcement and DNR would not be what it is today if men like like Bobby Gifford hadn’t paved the way for the future of the law enforcement division of DNR. Through this, I have gained a great respect for all the officers in green that work hard to preserve the natural resources of the state, so future generations are able to enjoy the same outdoor activities as people have for many
