There are many populations in the world today that we would consider vulnerable. Many of which we touched on in class. Even after the amount we touched on there are numerous more. The population that I did research on, and found to be vulnerable is the Autistic population.
When we think of someone with autism we often times can’t describe this person or have trouble finding the right words to describe them. That is because autism defined by autismspeaks.org is, “ a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences.” Which means that every autistic person is different in their own special way.

Restraint/Seclusion is another major factor. It is such a big factor that “It’s estimated that over the last five years, more than 20 students, many with disabilities, have died due to seclusion and restraints being used in schools.” As of right now, “There is no federal law that prohibits the use of restraints that restrict breathing, and locked seclusion, in public and private schools.” (United States Government Accountability Office, Selected Cases of Death and Abuse at Public and Private Schools and Treatment Center). This is a problem because educators and even the students need to realize that this is a major problem. This type of thing is in a way a form of bullying. Schools are very much against bullying and have been increasingly over the years. When in fact, the school system itself is bullying these autistic children by secluding them. In turn resulting in the some of the same effects that bullying has on the children without autism. It has the same effects.
