The objective of the present study was to investigate whether career insecurity in employed individuals predicts poor health and higher burnout scores over time, and if this correlation is moderated by career adaptability. The analysis of the computations showed the influence of career insecurity on health within a sample of working Swiss people. In sum, the findings support Hypotheses 1-2, but not all conditions of Hypothesis 3.
Theoretical contributions
An important contribution of this study is that it shows that there is evidence for a correlation between career insecurity and poor health, and particularly the findings confirm that high career insecurity in employees elicits a worse status of health. It is consistent with other findings

The present study could provide evidence that career insecurity is negatively associated with general health and predicts higher scores of burnout. Like mentioned at the beginning, most of the results in research about insecurity refer to job insecurity, caused by the lack of research in career insecurity. So it’s difficult to compare the results of the present study with current results in literature, and more research about career insecurity is needed. Future researchers should examine the new construct of career insecurity and it’s effects on health. Furthermore, employees with poor health costs a lot of money, e.g. due to sickness absence and health services use. So it is important to reduce career insecurity. The present study doesn’t provide direct practical instructions how to reduce career insecurity. Therefore subsequent research should focus on practical implications and instructions.
