In our great country we have a problem arising, and this problem is becoming worse. The problem is that people are taking down the monuments and statues of confederate soldiers, and I strongly think this is wrong. Taking down these statues are a problem because confederate soldiers were still American veterans and they deserve the same rights as union soldiers and their monuments. Three main points are confederate soldiers are still American veterans, we must keep reminders of our history, even the bad times so we don’t repeat the past, and finally taking down the confederate statues won’t change what happened in the past and it won’t change racism either. First, for starters, confederate soldiers are still Americans, and they are still American veterans. Congress passed a law, 85-425 Sec 410 approved in 1958 giving Confederate veterans status under law equal to U.S. Veterans. All confederate soldiers where pardoned. With that being said, in my opinion, they deserve all the rights and monuments that have been built for them in this country. These confederate statues also commemorate the fallen soldiers that lost their lives fighting for a cause they thought was right. The statues don’t recognize white supremacy or racism, they recognize the confederacy, history, and leaders. These statues were put up for a reason. The reason is that this country use to be split and since the north has their fair share we also needed a reminder or share of the souths history to be noticed too. We put them up to remind us of the once split union and we are now taking them down because our nation is becoming split again. Taking them down will not stop racism, it will make it
