The popular drug, Cannabis, well known as Marijuana and many other street names is a plant used for medical and psychological purposes. Marijuana is also one of the most common drugs used in today’s society. Many teenagers use it on a daily basis by either consuming it through “edibles” or by smoking it. The denial to legalize marijuana ultimately decriminalizes society and helps the immune systems of many people such as children and teenagers. Opposing persons of these facts such as consumers and suppliers would say that marijuana is harmless and has positive attributes. However, according to DrugAbuse.gov, “When a person smokes marijuana, THC quickly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream. The blood carries the chemical to the brain and other organs throughout the body. The body absorbs THC more slowly when the person eats or drinks it. In that case, the user generally feels the effects after 30 minutes to 1 hour.” This short-term effect on the brain causes impaired body movement, memory, and difficulty with thinking and problem solving. With short term effects comes long term effects such as reduced thinking, learning functions, and it also affects how the brain functions with certain internal organs. Not only does marijuana affect the lungs, but it also affects the immune system. While weakening the immune system, it decreases the chances of the body fighting back diseases. It is a proven fact from certain studies that “smoking marijuana hurts the lungs' first line of defense against infection by killing cells that help remove dust and germs as well as causing more mucus to be formed.” By removing the cells that stop infections, users are more prone to Aspergillus, a mold which can grow on marijuana that causes fungus to develop inside the lungs, if the immune system is not
