Many Muslim calgarians of visible minorities and people who are new-comers live their lives facing discrimination and culture criticizing.

Stats Canada said, Canada has appearance of being one of the most diverse countries in the world. Canada embraces people’s backgrounds and cultures, however, that idea has become very questionable and debatable issue.

‘’Many Calgarians don’t want to it, there’s a lot of discreet oppression and racism we face every day,” said Mohammed Davood.

Since before 9/11, Muslims have faced discrimination and racism. Muslims have been portrayed in society and media as radicals and terrorists. “Media has a lot to do with the portal of Muslims. I didn’t know much about the religion or the people who believe in it. I would often hear about awful acts they would do in media,” said Charlie Gordan.

Currently, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. “The westerns’ worlds knowledge of Islam is just that its only propionate in the middle east. Which isn’t true, Muslims come from various parts of the world so it’s funny when people associate Muslim and Arab together” said Davood.

The term islamophobia was invented by Iranian fundamentalists the purpose for this word was to state Islam inviolate. Islamophobia is when Muslims are the targets of attacks and it is something that worries a lot of Calgarians.
