During this semester of taking English 102, I believe I have improved to some extent. In the beginning of this year I was hoping I would change the way I wrote my papers, so I could sound more like a college student. Learning how to incorporate Rhetorical Tools, researching the topics, and coming up with how to organize my paper are some concepts that have helped me grow. Continually have assignments due, were a lot of time and effort, but helped me practice and grow furthermore into the writer I would like to become. Throughout the semester, at the end of each project, there are a larger paper that needed to be completed. When writing these more intense assignments, I had the chance to learn how to feature some Rhetorical Tools to strengthen the message I wanted to portray. In the beginning of my Magazine Article, I added the metaphor “it was a bump in the road” and “a wall blocking my path” to create the essence of the feeling of being held back. By adding these phrases, I hoped my readers would picture those emotions. The Rhetorical Tools of examples, statistics, facts, and authorities were majorly brought throughout my Academic essay. Being able to provide statistics of the average student debt in the United States, comments from a Committee Chair person for education, and other effects for my topic …show more content…

My main goal, was to sound more like a college student. I was always taught that the stronger words you use, the smarter you will come across. But, I have learned, those stronger or wordy phrases are just unnecessary. Additionally, I have learned to avoid clichés in my essays. This was something I never thought about, but they are also unnecessary and worn-out phrases. In my Magazine Article I used the cliché of “stay ahead of the curve”, when deleting that phrase, it actually strengthened my point, while getting rid of that redundant
