Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a seizure disorder that can be caused by poor prenatal care, a brain injury, or passed on through genetics. An Epileptic seizure occurs when nerve cell activity in the brain is disrupted which leads to disturbance of the brains electrical activity. The term epilepsy refers to recurrent seizures (convulsions). The burst of electrical energy can result in particular or total loss of consciousness, uncontrolled muscle movements, or changes in behavior or sensory activity.
Symptoms
Epilepsy has several symptoms that may appear. The symptoms that appear vary from person to person depending on the type of seizures that occur. Common symptoms of epilepsy are seizures, amnesia, anxiety, depression, headaches, sleepiness, staring spells, and temporary paralysis after seizure. Some symptoms …show more content…

The most common seizure types diagnosed among children are Generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures: children lose consciousness and fall to the floor with violent muscle jerking, Absence seizures (petit mal): momentary loss of consciousness occurring throughout the day (daydreaming like symptoms), and Partial Psychomotor seizures: unknowingly performance of strange behaviors (Cowerdly & Allen, 2012, p. 160).
A parent who has a child who has Epilepsy may have several concerns that arise such as how will this affect my child in the future, is my child in pain, how can I help my child when he or she is having a seizure, can I prevent my child from having a seizure. Epilepsy can be a scary thing it may not only be scary for the parents of the child but for the themselves. Some important things for a parent to remember is that a child who Epilepsy needs you support another words if you are scared it may scare them, a child is not in pain when experiencing a seizure,
