Should Same-Sex Couples Be Allowed To Adopt? (Gay Parents) Adoption is a legal process in which a stable home and family is provided for a child, by a couple other than the biological parents. Yes, the child is fed and clothed at an orphanage but not all of the children can be emotionally cared for. A child needs a parent like figure even if it takes a gay or lesbian couple to do so. Just because many disapprove of the same sex relationships does not mean the problem will disappear, there is still many of children living without proper care. A child can grow with two moms or two dads, it is not something that is uncommon. For instance, when a male and female couple divorce and remarry another partner, that other partner becomes a step-mother or step-father. According to a Pew Research Center report in 2009, some 53 percent of Americans oppose same-sex marriage, but 57 percent support civil unions for same-sex couples (“Same-Sex Marriage”). Some states do approve of civil unions that can give same-sex couple rights to each other’s financial benefits and adoption. However without the actual marriage license, the civil union is not widely recognized and accepted outside that particular state. So if a homosexual couple decide to visit another state and adopt a child from an institution, the process would most probably be denied due the concept that a child should have a traditional male and female family. In which many of people could agree to because of the fact on how their parents taught him or her how a person came to life from a male’s sperm cell and later a female’s womb.
