In Of Mice And Men, by John Steinbeck, he talks about friendship and what two men have to go through to keep their friendship. George and Lennie have a very close friendship; George has been looking out for Lennie every since his Aunt Clara died. Lennie is a big, and sweet boy, but he sometimes does not realize what he is doing, and that is what gets him into trouble. George cares for Lennie and always has but George feels like sometimes Lennie is too much and is holding George back from having freedom in life. Lennie and George want a good life but they face a lot of obstacles, such as Lennie’s disability and certain people on the Ranch. In the novel, Lennie and George are close and every friendship has it’s bumps in the road. For these two, one was George sometimes felt like Lennie was keeping him from a good life and his own happiness. On page 11, George says, “God a ‘mighty, if I was alone I could live so easy. I could get a job an’ work, an’ no trouble.” George cares for Lennie but sometimes feels like by staying with him his life will be nothing but failure and he never has any opportunities. He knows Lennie does not mean to be so aggravating or get in trouble but sometimes he takes things too far and George does not like it.
