A highly debated topic discussed across the nation is whether or not there should be more or less gun control in the United States. Many people have very different views about this topic, some say there should be more gun control in and civilians should not be granted access to guns and others say civilians should be allowed full gun control and should be able to do what they want with things in their possession. I strongly lean to the side that believes there should be more gun control in the United States, I believe this because of three main reasons it would reduce the amount of the deaths in the United States, they would decrease the amount of high capacity firearms, and help protect women from guns. When high-capacity magazines were used in mass shootings, the death rate rose 63% and the injury rate rose 156%.”. This piece of evidence is significant because it goes to show what the problem is with having high capacity guns open to the public, there becomes a higher death rate when dealing with high capacity firearms. The last reason why the U.S. should have more gun laws is to keep women safer from guns. Many women across the United States do feel protected or safe because of their sex, and guns are surely not helping out with their safety. A piece of evidence found from GunControlProCon.org that shows women are not protected the way they should be is “Five women are murdered with guns every day in the United States. A woman's risk of being murdered increases 500% if a gun is present during a domestic dispute.” This piece of evidence is alluring because it shows the negative affects of what can happen when guns are open to the strangers, impacting women’s lives greatly. Although others may argue that men are targeted more by guns than women evidence suggests “American women are 11.4 times more likely to be the victims of gun homicides.” This piece of evidence found from GunControlProCon.org
