This article is helpful to me because it helps me prove that the United States desperately needs to make changes to laws, more specifically, gun laws. This article helps me prove that the United States is the deadliest when it comes to guns. They are not as strict here as they are in other countries, which is why we have the highest number of deaths. This article allows me to prove that there are indeed issues with America’s gun control. Evidence: “Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children and young adults in the United States”(Masters).
Gun violence in the United States of America did not become a recurring issue until the development of advanced weapons. According to CNN, a leading online news source, the first major mass shooting occurred in 1949 (CNN). Since then, the occurrence of mass shootings in the country has dramatically increased. Discussions about the 2nd Amendment and gun control have become a very touchy subject for the American public. For most American citizens, the 2nd Amendment has become a shield in debates, as well as a valid reason to shut down the anti-gun movement.
Firearms have been part of American tradition as protection and means of hunting or sport. Use of guns changed significantly over the years. The issue of gun control is on many levels of sociological problem. The attempts to reduce or eliminate violence and mass shootings would be expected to be most effective if they have the coordination of many pieces in the society such as policymakers, teachers, social workers, and others. Gun control efforts continue to present challenges.
Firearms hold the power to destroy live in a matter of moments. Within the ever-evolving society of today, one aspect remains a relatively constant--gun violence. It has not only remained present on the mainstage of the world, but has begun to take on more and more of a presence. Throughout the developed nations, a debate has been ongoing, the debate on the correct path in limiting the firearm-related crime. Now, in a world ravaged by the atrocities of gun massacres, many countries have begun to take steps towards a more progressive set of gun laws.
Gun violence in America has been alarmingly increasing since the 90s and has continued throughout the years. Although guns may save lives, evidence shows that most guns in America are stolen from other thieves and misused. Due to lack of gun control found in nearly fifty percent of the states, guns are mostly misused for other reasons. Since 2012, there have been gun sales spiking across the U.S. Every year, America’s minimum increase in gun sales is five percent. The American government should raise gun laws to reduce gun violence, which leads to death.
Guns do not determine the likelihood of a gun-related crime to be committed, but the improper and careless misuses of guns do enhance the probability of a crime being committed. Every time a mass shooting occurs, people respond in the same way. They call for stricter gun control laws in order to make it more difficult for criminals to obtain weapons. However, we should take a closer look at the killer behind the trigger as oppose to blaming the outright presence of guns in our society. For example, when examining the price of gun control, Dan Baum brings up a new perspective when he states that by Americans “obsessing over inanimate pieces of metal, we avoid looking at what brings us more often than others to commit violent acts” (Chaffee 180).
Gun Violence in America Since the inception of firearms, people have been wielding all types of arms and ammunitions against each other in order to injure or kill their opponent. In the modern world, this violence is unwarranted and goes against everything society stands for. Nowhere else is gun violence most prevalent than in the United States of America. Because of the Constitution, Americans have had the right to bear arms since 1776.
Throughout history, gun violence has always been an issue in the United States. Nowadays, gun violence has become one of the most significant and debatable topics. When reading the NY Times article, “Should Teachers Carry Guns? Are Metal Detectors Helpful? What Experts Say”, by Anemona Hartocollis and Jackey Fortin, I have become not only more enlightened on this epidemic but also more opinionated as well.
Gun violence is responsible for roughly 30,000 deaths in the United States each year. Many of these deaths could have been prevented by common sense gun laws that most countries have. It is very easy for anyone in the United States to buy a gun with very little questioning. This leniency in gun laws leads to firearms falling into the arms of criminals, terrorists, and mentally unstable people. In my essay I will be talking about how stricter gun laws have proven successful in many other countries, the true meaning of the Second Amendment, and how stricter gun laws will lead to lower homicide and suicide rates.

The main issue with gun violence lies within the ownership and issuances of unlicensed guns (Haynes, 2016). The killing of 20 school children in Newtown, Ct. in December 2012 provoked a national debate over gun laws and initial calls by the Obama administration to limit the accessibility of military-style assault weapons (Masters, 2012).
