Gun violence in the United States of America did not become a recurring issue until the development of advanced weapons. According to CNN, a leading online news source, the first major mass shooting occurred in 1949 (CNN). Since then, the occurrence of mass shootings in the country has dramatically increased. Discussions about the 2nd Amendment and gun control have become a very touchy subject for the American public. For most American citizens, the 2nd Amendment has become a shield in debates, as well as a valid reason to shut down the anti-gun movement. One voice in the crowd, Timothy W. Waters strongly believes that the people of the United States should get rid of the 2nd Amendment. In his article “We don’t need the 2nd Amendment - we need a real debate about guns,” featured in The Los Angeles Times, Timothy Waters states his personal opinion about what the next step should be against gun violence. …show more content…

The author believes this can only happen when there is no longer “an amendment prohibiting guns or protecting them”(Waters). Although the author states a quick solution at the end of his opinion article, the placement did not complete his piece of work. By the end of the article, readers will feel disappointed about the lack of information to support Waters’ thesis. The opinion piece also will come across as an ugly draft, not a paper ready for publication. Throughout his paper, Waters lacks the persuasion tactics that would have made his opinion fabricate a powerful impact on readers.
