The United States has been considered a utopia for people who believe in weapons, and the free will to utilize them. Ever since the creation of the United States, the Second Amendment right has always been supported by many, and is amongst the most well known right. Up until now, during the modernization of weaponry, and armed homicide, millions have been swayed to think of their Second Amendment right more critically, by either controlling it, or outright abolishing it. To understand all sides of this huge argument that is gun control, an ordinary citizen must be educated on positions for, against, and neutralities against gun control to make an educated choice for the future of the United States’ Second Amendment. Author of Gun Violence: The Real Costs, Philip J. Cook excellently crafted a thorough book on implementing a stricter agenda for gun control. Cook, unlike many authors chooses a topic that is second nature to human beings, which is money, effectively appealing and attracting readers in a logistical sense. Money, for many, hits straight home; effectively breaking down the true costs of gun violence, how much it costs the nation entirely, and how much individual citizens’ tax payer money is used on gun violence, one can realize the void put in the economy when murders are committed. When actually breaking down the costs, especially at a personal level of how much a taxpayer would pay, can open several people’s eyes on implanting gun control. Relatively early in the book it states, “the annual costs of gun violence are on the order of $100 billion.” (Cook 11). Only later on, does Cook show the exact math behind the real costs of gun violence. When presented this huge number early on in this book, lawmakers especially should really consider implementing gun control.
