As mass shootings are becoming more frequent, it has opened up many controversial possible solutions that could be done to help prevent such inhumane things to happen. In 2017, according to Gun Violence Achieve, they’re have been 61,512 gun accidents that occurred, with 15,593 leading to death. This numbers have increased over the past years, and the questions that many want an answer is if stricter gun control is need for the safety of the people. The division of country is between the two perspectives of gun control being placed. One side, mostly known as the Republicans, are revolving their beliefs to the second amendment, where the right to bear arms gives them the right to own weapons. This is where the two views come into play, the pro-gun control supports think that if they had a stricter gun control they would have had prevented the school shooting, on the other hand the republicans think that a man who is determined to kill will find a way to get possession of guns. This debate can go on with other shootings, starting as early as the twenty-first century, and the safety of the public is in risk of another shooting to take place. According to On the Issue, the democrats who belief that gun control is the answer, strongly belief that a reasonable gun possession should be given to the people, meaning having a stricter and stronger background check before getting a gun and ban assault weapons so guns of that power cannot fall into the hands of criminals. While the republicans, state that the problem is the people and not the guns, using the phrase “guns don’t kill, people do,” and the solution is to get the people with signs of aggressive behavior and mental health issues away from those guns, by helping them, not having stricter gun
