American politician Terry McAuliffe once said, “There are too many guns in the hands of people that shouldn't have guns. There is too much gun violence in America” (Brainy Quote). In my opinion, there have been too many guns allowed for the people to get. It is too easy for people to get their hands on a gun. There is way too much gun violence. The gun violence is causing many other problems too. There are many instances where two different races are in conflicts with guns and police officers. There are also too many deaths and mass shootings. Guns should be banned, let alone, there is no point in someone being able to get an assault rifle. There is a valid reason for people to have guns in their house for protection use only, not open carry. I think there should be more restrictions on who and how people get guns. That is why I have chosen to research and write more about if gun control is effective in reducing gun violence. The NRA wanted guns to be reduced and stricter. If this would have worked out in the NRA’s favor, “the U.S. would have the lowest homicide rate among industrialized nations instead of the highest homicide rate” (John Donohue, 10/3/15). This is obviously not working out for the U.S. nowadays because according to the article, “The U.S. is by far the world leader in the number of guns in civilian hands” (John Donohue, 10/3/15). I would think that if the U.S. has a lot of gun violence and we lead the world in the number of civilians with guns, that the government would notice these issues and try to put a stop to it. The government is supposed to protect us and better the society, but it does not seem like it.
